Jet2 Flight Delay Compensation
Jet2 operates leisure flights from UK airports to European destinations. If your flight arrived 3+ hours late, UK261 may apply depending on the route and circumstances. Check free in 60 seconds.
Check My Jet2 Flight →How much can I claim from Jet2?
- 🛫 Short flights (under 1,500 km) — €250
- 🛫 Medium flights (1,500–3,500 km) — €400
- 🛫 Long-haul (over 3,500 km) — €600
Clairo caps its estimate at €400 when both ends of the route are EU/EEA/UK airports, mirroring the intra-Community cap in Article 7(1)(b); it only estimates €600 where one end lies outside that area. Long UK–EU routes sit at the edge of that cap, so treat the figure as an estimate and check the position for your route.
UK261 sets its own figures in sterling, so UK sterling amounts are set separately from the euro bands and the two regimes are not interchangeable. Clairo's checker currently shows euro estimates only — check current UK CAA guidance for the sterling figures that apply.
The band follows the great-circle distance of your route: Manchester–Malaga is ~1,900 km and Leeds–Tenerife is ~2,900 km, both in the €400 band. Compensation is per passenger.
Is Jet2 covered by UK261 or EU261 compensation rules?
Jet2 is a UK airline operating primarily from UK airports. Flights departing UK airports fall under UK261, the UK's retained version of EU Regulation 261/2004, which follows the same distance-band structure but states its amounts in sterling — those figures are set separately from the euro amounts, so check current UK CAA guidance for them. For Jet2 flights departing EU airports (e.g. Tenerife, Malaga), EU261 applies.
How much can I claim from Jet2 for a delay?
Under EU261 the bands are €250 for flights under 1,500 km, €400 for qualifying flights from 1,500–3,500 km (e.g. Leeds–Malaga at ~1,900 km), and €600 for qualifying flights over 3,500 km. UK261 uses the same band structure with its own sterling figures — check current UK CAA guidance for those. Jet2 operates leisure routes from Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh to Mediterranean and Canary Island destinations. Article 7(1)(b) sets €400 for intra-Community flights over 1,500 km, so the €600 band applies only where one end of the route lies outside that area; Clairo treats EU/EEA and UK airports as inside it, and long UK–EU routes sit at the edge of the cap.
How do I submit a compensation request to Jet2?
Jet2 provides an online process for disruption expenses and compensation requests. Keep your submission confirmation, airline response and evidence about the disruption.
What if my Jet2 package holiday was delayed — do I have extra rights?
Yes. If you booked a Jet2holidays package, you have both UK261 flight delay rights AND package holiday rights under the Package Travel Regulations 2018. These can provide additional remedies including compensation for ruined holidays. Clairo focuses on the UK261/EU261 flight compensation element.
How long do I have to claim from Jet2?
Claim deadlines depend on the applicable jurisdiction. Check current official UK guidance and preserve your booking, submission and disruption evidence promptly.
Common Jet2 delay reasons that qualify
- ✅ Aircraft technical fault or unscheduled maintenance
- ✅ Crew scheduling issues or rest time limits exceeded
- ✅ Rotational delays from an aircraft arriving late on an earlier sector
- ✅ Ground handling delays at UK or EU airports
- ❌ Severe weather at Mediterranean or Canary Island destinations
- ❌ ATC restrictions or en-route airspace issues
UK261 and where a Jet2 complaint goes next
Jet2 flies mainly out of UK airports, so most of its outbound flights are UK261 flights and the sterling figures in Article 7(1) are the relevant ones. The return legs depart EU airports and fall under the EU regulation. The UK261 guide sets out both tests and the amounts.
The escalation route is the part worth checking here. Jet2 does not appear among the airlines listed on the CAA's approved dispute-resolution scheme list. The CAA's stated position is that where an airline is not signed up to an approved scheme, its own Passenger Advice and Complaints Team may take the complaint up, without power to bind the airline. Check the list yourself before relying on that — memberships change, and the list is the authoritative record.
Submit the claim through Jet2's own published claim process on its website first; the CAA is clear that the airline gets the first opportunity to resolve it either way. If you booked a package, the CAA's guidance on claiming costs and compensation covers how expenses and compensation are handled as separate submissions. The UK deadlines apply at each stage.
